









The Blue Lake Rancheria (BLR) Tribal Police Department (TPD) recently participated in the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka. CIT training is a collaborative training effort between Humboldt County Law Enforcement and the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services, designed to assist first-responders help persons with mental disorders and/or addiction access resources and move toward long-term assistance, enhancing quality of life for the community. Humboldt County CIT started in 2007 and has presented weeklong training sessions annually since.
On the final days of CIT training, participants were able to take part in various live scenarios portrayed by actors, with instructors there to give feedback and reflection. BLR Tribal Police Chief Kevin Miller served as an instructor for this year’s CIT training, providing valuable insight for the trainees. Additionally, the Blue Lake Rancheria Communications Department attended the live scenario portions of the training to film the scenarios and provide the Eureka Police Department with footage for future online training options.
