2026 Cultural Fire Symposium

The 4^th annual Blue Lake Rancheria Cultural Fire Symposium brought together over 100 fire practitioners, community members, agency partners, students, and researchers from across North and Central America for two days dedicated to the restoration of Indigenous fire stewardship.

Hosted in partnership with the Yurok Tribe and CAL FIRE, this year’s symposium created space for meaningful conversations about the role of cultural fire in protecting communities, restoring ecosystems, and revitalizing Indigenous knowledge. Through educational presentations, panel discussions, and a live cultural burn operation, participants gained an understanding of how Traditional Ecological Knowledges are central to the realization of a resilient future, and the role of guest responsibilities and collaboration on the landscape. A particularly meaningful part of the symposium was facilitating the next generation’s engagement with cultural fire practices alongside experienced practitioners, reinforcing that this work is not only about caring for the Land today, but also ensuring these traditions are carried forward for generations to come.
