Blue Lake Rancheria Fire Department attends annual Salmon Run

The Blue Lake Rancheria Fire Department proudly participated in the 2026 Salmon Run. The annual Salmon Run started back in 2003 as a way for indigenous teens from the Klamath and Trinity rivers to advocate for dam removal. Until 2024, four dams blocked the journey of the salmon population while also compromising water quality and producing toxic algae blooms. Thanks to the efforts of the teens and Tribes’ decommissioning efforts throughout the decades, salmon spawned in the Klamath’s headwaters for the first time since the early 1900’s. The Salmon Run is an extensive relay run that follows the salmon’s annual migration to spawn from the Pacific Ocean in Yurok County, through the Trinity River, and on to the Klamath’s headwaters in the Klamath Tribes’ territory.
