Remembering Marina “Rena” Sunseri

Today, June 12, we celebrate the life of Marina Sunseri—and it’s hard to believe she’s been gone nearly two and a half years. While not a Tribal member, she was a beloved part of the Blue Lake Rancheria community and is deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

Rena, as she was affectionately known by friends and family, is remembered for her free spirit, bold and hilarious sense of humor, and an unforgettable laugh that could brighten anyone’s day. She spoke her truth, stood strong in who she was, and though small in stature, her heart was larger than life. She uplifted those around her, loved deeply, and approached life with fierce independence and determination.

A spiritual soul with a sassy streak, Rena adored her dogs and was happiest surrounded by those she loved. Her playful energy was matched only by the sparkle in her eyes—bright, expressive, and full of spirited charm.

Rena was a rebel at heart—someone who saw the world a little differently. She embraced the unconventional, found beauty in the overlooked, and lived life on her own terms with passion and authenticity. A natural hippy through and through, she radiated love, sought meaning in the everyday, and never shied away from marching to the beat of her own drum. She loved the peace sign—a symbol that perfectly captured her love for harmony, freedom, and good vibes. She also delighted in collecting rocks and trinkets—small treasures that reflected her deep appreciation for life’s simple, meaningful moments.

Happy Birthday Marina. Though you may be gone, your light, love, and laughter remain with us—always. 💫 ☮️ 💜
