On 12/19, the Blue Lake Rancheria (BLR) Tribal Education Agency (TEA) attended the Eureka City Schools Winter Resource Fair at Zoe Barnum High School. BLR TEA staff set up and distributed winter coats and school supply backpacks to attendees of the event, interacting with the Community in the spirit of kinship, ensuring that every family stays warm this season. The backpacks and coats were donated by Running Strong for American Indian Youth. As well as the resource fair, winter coats were given to Wiyot Tribe Education Employees Elizabeth Hernandez and Alfredo Calderon in order to distribute coats in their community. Along with BLR TEA staff, Olivia “Ollie” Mitchell, a Modern Youth Internship Academies (MYIA) intern, assisted with handing out and restocking supplies.
The Blue Lake Rancheria (BLR) Tribal Education Agency’s (TEA) Modern Youth Internship Academies (MYIA) program is a career readiness and college preparation program offered by the BLR-TEA. It provides students from Del Norte and Humboldt counties with hands-on internship experiences in various industries, including CTE sectors, agriculture, technology, healthcare, environmental sciences, and more. Through mentoring, job training, and leadership development, MYIA equips youth with essential skills and real-world knowledge, helping them succeed in their selected careers and academic pathways.
