On November 14th at Alice Birney Elementary School, a group of Modern Youth Internship Academies (MYIA) interns from Eureka High School gathered to assist Alice Birney Elementary School staff in leading after school activities for elementary students. The MYIA interns at Alice Birney Elementary School have been working with the Site Supervisor, Tina Toomata, and the Principal of Alice Birney Elementary School, Kristin Sobilo to help engage the students in fun after school learning activities. This day, the MYIA interns helped students in their reading study class, working with students individually to assist with pronunciations and definitions, and rotated between students as questions came up.
The Blue Lake Rancheria (BLR) Tribal Education Agency’s (TEA) MYIA program is a career readiness and college preparation program offered by the BLR-TEA. It provides students from Del Norte and Humboldt counties with hands-on internship experiences in various industries, including technology, healthcare, environmental sciences, and more. Through mentoring, job training, and leadership development, MYIA equips youth with essential skills and real-world knowledge to help them succeed in their future careers and academic pathways.
