Zane Middle School Soil Donation

Blue Lake Rancheria’s Tribal Education Agency has recently facilitated the delivery of donated soil to Zane Middle School in order to help establish an Organic Food and Food Sovereignty program. Royal Gold donated a full truck bed of soil, and FoxFarm donated 64 bags of soil. All of the soil was delivered to Zane Middle School.

Emmalee Constant is the Community in Schools Liaison, and the Garden Program Teacher for Zane Middle School. The Blue Lake Rancheria Tribal Education Agency has been working with Emmalee to help establish the Organic Food and Food Sovereignty programs. These programs will provide students with engaging and exciting opportunities which provide hands-on education and instills resiliency. When the first round of soil was delivered, students moved soil into planters and got to work having fun in the dirt.

Blue Lake Rancheria’s Native American Career & Technical Education Program (NACTEP) grant funded the costs of other supplies which were needed for these programs, including wheelbarrows, gloves, shovels, gardening hand tools, and flats of starts for the garden.
