On this Veterans Day, Blue Lake Rancheria (BLR) extends our deepest respect and gratitude to all who have served, especially our many Tribal member and employee veterans whose courage, dedication, and sacrifice continue to strengthen our community.
On November 8th, BLR had the honor of commemorating the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps on November 10th by attending a local celebration at the Ingomar Club, featuring live symphony music by the College of the Redwoods Band, a shared dinner, awards, and the traditional cake cutting ceremony. The Marine Corps birthday cake cutting ceremony involves the cake being traditionally cut using a Mameluke sword, symbolizing the Marine Corps’ warrior spirit. The first piece of cake is presented to the guest of honor, followed by the second piece to the oldest Marine present, and the third piece to the youngest Marine present. This practice symbolizes the enduring bond between generations of service members.
The event was organized by Gregg Gardiner, Toys for Tots Coordinator for Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte counties. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, is an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity which was created at the behest of the U. S. Marine Corps. The basic mission of the program is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to economically disadvantaged children on Christmas.
During this event, BLR Tribal Chairman Jason Ramos accepted a Certificate of Distinguished Service and Partnership from Toys for Tots, which recognized Blue Lake Casino & Hotel and BLR as the most significant community partnership for the local Toys for Tots chapter. Since the start of this partnership, Blue Lake Casino & Hotel and BLR have provided over $1.6 million in toys, gifts, and financial contributions. This contribution supports over 10,000 children each Christmas across Humboldt, Trinity, Del Norte, Siskiyou, Lake, and Mendocino counties – including hundreds from Native American communities in experiencing the joy and magic of the holiday season.
We thank all who attended and contributed to this meaningful event, and today we proudly recognize every veteran for their unwavering commitment to protecting our nation and preserving our freedoms.
