In addition to meals programs, educational incentives and support of community safety services, the Blue Lake Rancheria seeks out other innovative ways to improve the lives of children.
For children from economically challenged households, one such program provides special clothing for the special events in children’s lives, such as Prom Night. In its 5th year, the program has created many smiling faces.
During the school year, the Blue Lake Rancheria Child Nutrition Programs provide breakfast, lunch and after-school snacks for the Blue Lake School District. During the summer months, lunches are provided for children in the community through a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Annually, nearly 40,000 meals are provided to Blue Lake area children through these programs.
It is not uncommon for program workers to be approached by other watchful caregivers and educators who need assistance in assessing the nutritional needs of a hungry child, and/or called on to provide a critical, healthy meal immediately.
